Originally from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Barbara began studying ballet at the age of 7 with the Caroline County Dance Theatre, under the direction of Pamela Showacre.  She furthered her youth dance education there by studying pointe, tap, jazz, musical theatre, and modern.  A MD Council for Dance workshop introduced her to Dr. Helen Brazil, Chair of the Towson University Dance Department, and inspired her to attend TSU and earn her F.F.A. in Dance Performance and Education.  Since graduation, Barbara, affectionately nicknamed "B", has traveled the country for over 16 years, from Maryland to Hawaii teaching, coaching, adjudicating, performing, and spreading her joy and love for dance to students age 2 to 92.  Notably, she has won several awards for choreography, costumes, make-up, technique, and team spirit.  Barbara has also been a featured dancer in several productions, such as: "Showgirls of Magic" direct from Las Vegas, "Over Here", and "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum".  The consummate student, she stays current with dance trends through workshops in various genres of dance and coaching with World champions Carolina and Felipe Telona, Georgia Ambarian and Eric Luna, and Inna Berlizyeva and Artem Plakhotniya.  "B" began her professional ballroom career with Fred Astaire South in  Anchorage, Alaska.  She has won several accolades as a Pro-Pro and Pro-Am Competitor, most recently receiving her High Honors American Smooth Certification from Dance Vision International Dance Association and becoming a PRO-D.V.I.D.A. member.  "B" is very excited to be back in Delaware with her own dance studio, "Barbara's Dance Academy".  She offers a one-of-a-kind studio to amateur dance students, dance enthusiasts, and professionals alike, with a facility that offers all of the fun and education of the ballet/tap/jazz studio, combined with the elegance and social dance opportunities of a ballroom and rhythm dance studio.
